The Cascadier: Fortuna Character Concept Art

Fortuna was one of the first items on the bill when I joined the Enchanted Arcade. Her development was the main avenue in establishing the style and theme of the game, the underlying tone of the narrative and ultimately the overall vibe of a lot of the 2D art assets. In the end, we landed on a style that was unique to The Cascadier that I'm quite pleased with.

Fortuna was the first character I designed for the project at a time, alongside the style establishment. Originally, the style was very inspired by Hades but ultimately we decided to go down a more unique style to The Cascadier after a little development.

Before her ultimate design, Fortuna was going to have a sinister allure to her, but we wanted to introduce the player to the world with a more outwardly welcoming character rather than a dubious one. But a lot of the themes were kept later for Theodan.

At one point in time, Theodan and Fortuna were going to be one and the same, or at least a lot more identical. The player could have chosen between a masculine or feminine companion, their appearance changing based on their choices.

Since the Characters are presented through text box dialogue, the character required a paperdoll model with emotional iterations, making emotional expressions quite important.
